Hypocrisy
Hypocrisy n - insincerity by virtue of pretending to have qualities or beliefs that you do not really have.
John Kerry has taken his campaign to a new level today. He finally answered the charges of the group Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, but not as you would hope he would. Instead of refuting what they said or documenting some of the flaws in their documentation which is what we all hope he would do, he took it as an opportunity to attack his opponent George Bush instead.

“But here's what you really need to know about them. They're funded by hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Republican contributor out of Texas. They're a front for the Bush campaign. And the fact that the President won't denounce what they're up to tells you everything you need to know. He wants them to do his dirty work.''
There are a few problems here.
First, it’s a wide jump to say that a republican supporting the group is ‘a front for the Bush campaign.’ By making this statement you then invalidate all of the groups funded by liberal backers as fronts for the Kerry campign, don’t you?
Also, Bush has stated he was willing to denounce all 527 organizations, of which Switboart Veterans for Truth was formed as, if Kerry would do the same. Of course, Kerry can’t do that. He is relying upon these groups that are operating with ties to the left to help him continue his campaign as he has run out of money because of the campaign finance laws that limit spending by a candidate. Until the convention, Kerry was not the official candidate so didn’t fall under those rules. Bush, not being an official candidate yet, is not bound at the present.
Why was Bush willing to get the 527 organizations denounced? There are many more ‘liberal’ 527 organizations out there than ‘conservative’ ones, the most powerful one being Moveon.org, a liberal 527 organization that has received millions in campaign donations from billionaire George Soros, a liberal with very very deep pockets and has stated that he is willing to empty them if it guaranteed a George Bush loss in 2004. Other organizations such as ACT have received millions from Soros as well.
Moveon.org has, for months, been running advertising against George Bush’s military record. Most of the information in their advertising is shown over and over again to be ‘misleading’ at best, as a search on factcheck.org will show. Yet is Kerry willing to denounce these charges? Is he willing to amputate their ability to harm George Bush? He wants them to do his dirty work. Just as he is accusing George Bush of doing with Swiftboats Veterans for Truth, a group who’s largest contribution has been 100,000, compared to millions to Moveon.org and ACT by George Soros.
Hypocrisy; unfortunately the way of doing business by many politicians.
